Join us to tour the Christmas Around the World
and Holidays of Light special exhibition
Monday, December 12, 2022
10:15 a.m. CDT
Museum of Science and Industry
5700 S Lake Shore Dr
Chicago, IL 60637
Every year, the Museum of Science and Industry puts up its four-story Grand Tree and surrounds the towering pine with more than 50 trees that represent Chicago's various communities and their respective holiday celebrations. Visitors will be able to take in even more seasonal cheer at the accompanying "Holidays of Light" exhibit, which recognizes the traditions of Chinese New Year, Diwali, Kwanzaa, Ramadan, Hanukkah, Visakha Puja Day and St. Lucia Day.
We will meet at 10:15 a.m. by the Zephyr Train in the main lobby of the museum (enter at the main street level entrance and take stairs or elevator down one level to main lobby). We will enter the museum as a group at 10:30 a.m. sharp. Monique Crossan, IWA member from Belgium, has been involved in decorating her country’s tree for over 15 years and will give us a “behind the scenes” understanding of how groups of volunteers have come together for the past 80 years to make this cultural celebration happen.
Family members and friends are welcome. Registration, which includes purchasing your museum entrance ticket, will be handled via the IWA website. Tickets will be distributed by Alice Chow and Marian Jacobson in the museum lobby area between 10:15-10:30 a.m. If you are a MSI member, you need not purchase a ticket, but please register so we know you are coming. The museum closes at 4 p.m. and your tickets are good for all day.
