FILM VIEWING (120 minutes)

Film: “Bashu, the Little Stranger” (1989) A drama directed by Bahram Beyzai, premiered in New York in 1990. Bashu, from the Gulf region of Iran, loses his house and entire family, when the Persian Gulf is bombed by Iraq. Fleeing the war, he stows away on a truck and ends up in the verdant, peaceful Gilan Province in Caspian Region of Iran, where everything from landscape to language is different even the color of his skin. He meets Naii, who is trying to raise her family, while her husband is away. Despite cultural differences, Bashu and Naii form a strong bond in this big-hearted film about family, rebirth and hope. Introduction by Roya Mehrnoosh.
